ALL ABOUT THE "MINDFULNESS-BASED EATING AWARENESS TRAINING" PROGRAM

The "Mindfulness-based Eating Awareness Training Program" was developed by Dr. Jean Kristeller, a clinical and research  psychologist who has worked for over 30 years in the areas of obesity, eating disorders and the therapeutic value of meditation.
 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


This is a ten week, thirteen session program, open to all levels of practice in mindfulness from beginner to experienced.  The program includes a variety of practices in mindful meditation including self compassion, mindful eating, hunger and body awareness, mindful movement, attending to emotions, and more.  Throughout the span of the Program, you will engage in exercises designed to stimulate and cultivate a more balanced positive attitude and ultimately a transformed relationship with food, eating, body image and weight.  (although weight loss is not the goal, it is often a side effect of this program)

Included is a half-day retreat and two follow-up sessions to help you integrate all that you have acquired during the Program.

THIS PROGRAM IS OF INTEREST TO THOSE LOOKING TO...
  • Appreciate the difference between physical hunger and other triggers for eating, such as strong emotions, thoughts, and social pressures.

  • Become aware in each moment, both internally (your thoughts, emotions, hunger, flavour, fullness) and externally (nutritional value of various foods).

  • Deliberately pay attention to your experience of food and eating without judgement

  • Choose to eat foods as much as possible that you enjoy and that nourish your body.

  • Experience flavours as much as possible that you enjoy and that nourish your body.

  • Notice how fullness develops in your stomach and how you feel once you’ve eaten enough.

  • Use information about the nutritional value and energy of food to meet your personal needs and inform your choices of what and how much to eat.

  • Free your energy from worries about food and giving it to other  important areas of your life.

The MB-EAT Program runs weekly for ten consecutive weeks, includes two follow-up classes.

Classes are two and a half hours in length.  All participants will be invited to a four hour half-day retreat online .

MEET THE FACILITATOR

Joanne Medeiros

Joanne is a Registered Holistic Nutritionist and Qualified Mindfulness Based Eating Awareness Training facilitator. She is trained and certified in Positive Psychology and Bounce Back Better Resilience Training from The Flourishing Centre NYC. 

 

She has several years of meditation experience and mindfulness training .  She believes that health and well-being are multi-dimentional and are made up of many aspects.  Joanne works with a Health At Every Size Approach, an evidence-based weight-neutral approach to health.
